Description
RARE AND POPULAR!! NEVER LASTS LONG!!This is USGS Professional Paper 224,
Geology and Mineral Deposits of the Cartersville District, Georgia
. Published in 1950, there can't be many of these around. It consists of a 97-page book and all six of the original maps and cross sections, all in excellent condition. One of the maps is a full color map of the district. Some of the maps are of specific mine workings.
You know those nice sharp clear barite crystals that come from Cartersville? This publication tells you exactly where they are! Plus there is a whole list of other minerals that includes:
Specular hematite
Strengite
Pyrolusite
Cryptomelane
Gold
Galena
Chalcopyrite
Pyrite
This district contains about 330 mines and prospects. There is an extensive table listing the more productive of them. In addition, numerous mines are described in detail in the book. They include:
Barium Reduction mine
Bertha and Big Bertha mines (I'm not kidding!)
Cherokee mine
Paga #1 and #2 mines
Reservoir Hill mine
Boneyard mine
Chumley Hill-Red Mountain mine
Dobbins mine
Bufford mountain
Peachtree mine
Vineyard Mountain group mines
Red #1 and #2 mines
And many more mines
This is an exceptionally scarce and desirable publication on an interesting and diverse mining district, and it is complete and in excellent condition. Damage is limited to minor wrinkling of the cover where the map pocket was glued into the inside of the cover, minor cover wear and wrinkling. Given its age of over fifty years, the condition is astounding!
