Description
Up for auction is this set of (4) beautiful Homer Laughlin HarlequinPottery TURQUOISE Cup & Saucer Sets
.
The Cups measures 2 ¾” tall and 4 ¾” in diameter including the handle. TheSaucers are 6” in diameter.
These pieces are in GREAT overall condition. The pictures I have taken are the best description I can give, so please view them all. There may appear to be some“marks”/ “blemishes”/ color or tone differences on some of the pieces. They are imperfections that happened while being made and are/or under the glaze. If there is any damage to any of the pieces, that I have listed, I will specifically state that!!!
*** The last five pictures I have taken show exactly what I am talking about. The first two pictures show surface scratches on two of the saucers, from use. (The other two saucers do not show much wear at all) The next two pictures show tiny "flea bite" chips on the rim of two of the cups. One on the inside of the rim of one glass. And one on the outer rim of the other glass. This is the only damage. The last picture shows a white "mark" on the handle of one of the cups, this is an imperfection under the glaze.
I am auctioning off several hundred Homer Laughlin Harlequin pieces, in all shapes and sizes. PLEASE take a look at my other auctions!
Here is a brief history of Homer Laughlin Harlequin Pottery:
Harlequin Pottery is as old as Vintage Fiestaware- it was introduced by Homer Laughlin in 1936 and sold exclusively through Woolworth Company. The first colors were "Blue, Green, Red and Yellow". The second wave of colors added were red (Fiesta orange) called "Tangerine" by HLCo, rose, turquoise and light green. In the 50s Grey, Chartreuse and Forest Green were added, and then in 1959 the colors were reduced to four: Red (orange), Turquoise, Yellow and Medium Green (just like Fiesta). Harlequin was produced from 1936-1964.
The great art deco designer Fredrick Rhead not only designed Fiestaware, but Harlequin as well. Lined with bands of graduating rims and dipped in bright straight forward colors and angled handles. Eventually Harlequin would be introduced in all of the Fiesta colors except ivory and deep cobalt blue.
It is important to note that Woolworth instigated a rerelease of Harlequin in 1979 for their 100th anniversary. The colors and pieces reproduced came in yellow, turquoise, medium green (which is milky compared to the original), and a coral that was a new color. Luckily, they back-stamped the reissues.
They were (4) place settings to a box, one dinner plate, a salad plate, a oatmeal/cereal bowl, a cup and saucer. Additionally, there was a hostess set consisting of a green 8" vegetable bowl, a coral 12" chop plate, a turquoise creamer and a yellow sugar bowl and lid. No other pieces were made in the reissue.
Who Loves Vintage?
I do…
After 25 years of collecting unique, vintage and antique items I have finally took the plunge and opened a store front. The name of my shop is called A Vintage View. It is located on the top floor of an old hotel on Main St. in La Crosse, WI.I quickly learned that having a retail space in this day and age, also goes hand in hand with being an EBay seller. I am eager to sell my items and hope that you will be as excited about my treasures as I am. These items are new to the EBay market and have come out of the Midwest. All of my pieces have been hand selected from estate sales, rummage sales, and locals who have given me the pleasure of “picking” their homes as theydownsize.
Almost ALL the items I sell are vintage or antique. This item is sold in used vintage/antique condition which means by nature it is usually not perfect as it is a pre-owned and will show signs of wear, use, and age. Most of my items are however, in excellent condition. I do not repair, or polish items. I sell them as I find them. It is sold “as is.”
I work VERY HARD to describe each item in detail, including its imperfections. I believe that my assessment of condition is pretty spot on, but it may differ from yours; this is the nature of buying something online that you cannot pick up and assess yourself. If you would like more information, have any questions or want additional pictures feel free to contact me. Please check my feedback and bid with confidence.
I am looking forward to becoming a Top Seller on Ebay, so your feedback is much appreciated. Also, be sure to save me as a seller and check in often for new treasures every week!
I hope that soon, I will become one of your favorites…
Good luck andHappy Bidding!!!!
