    Description

You are bidding on two 50-sen banknotes from Japan.  The first note, depicting Mount Fuji and sakura on the obverse, were produced beginning in 1938 due to the government’s need to redeem the silver used in 50-sen coins.  They are known as “Fuji Sakura 50 sen” and were valid until their abolition on August 31, 1948.  The Yasukuni shrine is featured on the obverse of the second 50-sen note, which was produced between 1942 and 1945.  This reverse depicts Mount Takachiho-no-mine which, along with the shrine, is sacred in Shinto folklore.  Both notes have been circulated and folded (in quarters) with creasing/wrinkling throughout the bills and wear along the edges.  See scans.
