Comments
Issued as a Series D banknote by the Bank of Japan (NipponGinko) on July 19, 2000.
Some westercatalogs categorize it as a commemorative note for the 'End of the 2ndMillennium and the 26th G8 Summit in Okinawa' but is considered a normalcirculation note according to Japanese laws.
Because only few vending machines accept this note and evennumbers like 2 and 4 are seen as 'unlucky', this note circulates little incomparison with the other denominations.
An exception is Okinawa where 40% of the 100 million (as of2013) banknotes were issued.
The intaglio printed tactile mark at the bottom right of thefront is the hiragana character
に
"ni" for two in Braille.
