Description
GJPawis pleased to offer an antique Chinese or Japanese Lacquered Wood Kang style Table or Stand. This table would make an ideal base for an antique Buddha or any other statue.
It is a miniature version of a classic type of Chinese long low table known as Kang Ji or K’ang Chi. The tables were originally meant to be placed on a kang, a raised three-walled platform used for sleeping or relaxing.
This style of table flourished in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and continued into the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), growing increasingly ornate.
This stylish and gorgeous black lacquered wood example features classic cabriole legs.
The earliest forms of cabriole leg were made in China and ancient and Greece.
The table shows wear consistent to the early 20th century and is in very good condition, including surface buff marks and light scratches, together with evidence of professional lacquer touch-up.
It measures 23 inches wide by 14 inches deep by 6 inches high (58.4 cm by 35.5 cm by 15.2 cm). It is a very nice collector’s piece that would make a welcome addition to any high level collection of Chinese or Japanese art and antiques.
